Euganean Hills
Natural beauties close to Montegrotto Terme

The Esplanade Tergesteo is located on the edge of the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills, a small natural jewel characterized by hills of volcanic origin, centuries-old chestnut woods and large terraces planted with vineyards and orchards.

  • Set among the hills, ancient villages, hermitages and refined architecture of luxuriant Venetian villas tell centuries of history, art and tradition.
It is possible to visit medieval towns such as Arquà Petrarca, close to the heart of medieval poet Francesco Petrarca, who chose to spend his last years there, and also visited by Lord Byron and Ugo Foscolo.
It is also possible to visit the walled towns of Monselice, Este and Montagnana, or places of worship such as Carceri Abbey and the Benedictine Praglia Abbey.

  • The magnificence of bourgeois life in the past lives on in the villas that over the centuries have succeeded in keeping their charm, such as Villa dei Vescovi in Torreglia, Villa Barbarigo in Valsanzibio or Catajo Castle in Battaglia Terme.
Or why not lose yourself in the small villages set on the hills, where time seems to have stopped at the simple country life of decades ago: the ancient fief of Baone and Villa Beatrice d’Este, Cinto Euganeo and the industrial archaeological complex of Cava Bomba, now home to an important fossil museum.

  • For lovers of good food, a refreshing break at one of the numerous agriturismos, wine bars or taverns in the Euganean Hills is a must.
The area boasts thirteen DOC wines, all of which are all strictly controlled by the Vini Colli Euganei Consortium.
